The International Salvage Law Seminar, organized and undertaken by the Rescue & Salvage Bureau of Ministry of Communication of PRC and China Maritime Law Association, and sponsored by China Ship-owners Mutual Assurance Association and China Classification Society was held in Beijing on September 5th - 6th, 2007.
The Seminar, with the attendance of over one 100 delegates from the Supreme Court of PRC, China Maritime Arbitration Commission, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, the maritime courts, the salvage companies, the shipping companies, the hull insurance companies, the law offices, the universities and CMS focused on the issues of salvage reward and special compensation during marine rescue and salvage under LOF/SCOPIC, 1989 Salvage Convention and China Law.
The Seminar was begun with the opening speeches of Mr. Song Jiahui, the director of China Salvage & Rescue Bureau.
During the two days of Seminar, following famous experts and scholars launched brilliant and exciting lectures. Mr. Archie Bishop (legal counsel of International Salvage Union and partner of Holman Fenwick & Willan Law Firm),Mr. Mike Stevens (partner of Dale & Stevens LLP), Mr. Hu Jingwu (vice general manager of China Ship-owners Mutual Assurance Association (CPI)),Mr. Si Yuzhuo (professor of Dalian Maritime University), Mr. Ye Weiying (Professor of China Council for the Promotion of International and Trade),Mr. Li Jianping (Business General Manager of WAH TAK Marine Engineering (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd.)
Chen Keyu of CMS was also invited to deliver a speech on the Claim on Clean-up Cost during Salvage Operation.
